Umngazi Hotel & Spa (formerly Umngazi River Bungalows and Spa) re-opened on 23 June 2016 after a five-week refurbishment on South Africa’s Wild Coast. Upgrades included a rebuilt kitchen, refurbished dining room, tennis court, and swimming pool, with 25 of the resort’s 69 bungalows receiving upgraded bathrooms. This marked the first time the family-orientated resort had closed its doors for restorations of this scale.

What Changed

Kitchen: Fully gutted and rebuilt, including a new top-class refrigeration unit
Dining room: New screeded floors, new buffet station, new glass-paned doors
Kiddies’ dining room: Refurbished
Bar & lounge: New bar counter, redone lounge floor

Room & Bungalow Upgrades

25 of 69 bungalows: Upgraded bathrooms and fresh paint
Honeymoon suite (double-storey): Expanded, more spacious bathroom area
Emloyeni rooms & three honeymoon suites: Wider decks for extra sunshine
Buildings: Extensive re-thatching programme across the resort

Spa & Facilities

Tennis court & swimming pool: Freshly refurbished
