Looking for a unique mid-year MTB break?
Then look no further than our 2019 Grindrod Bank Umngazi Pondo Pedal which takes place from the 12-16 June 2019 and has been described by two cycling experts (Tim Whitfield and David Moseley) as the best race in the country.
The Pondo Pedal, in its 8th year, is an adventurous mountain biking 3 day staged event that takes place every year in June. Each race-day begins and concludes at Umngazi River Bungalows and Spa.
The event caters for both the intermediate and advanced biking enthusiast, as well as nature-lovers and adventure-seekers. Do not be fooled by the short distances, the routes are tough and challenging and makes the spoils of the beautiful Umngazi River Bungalows and Spa resort all the more rewarding.
The 115km route takes cyclists along varied tracks that include district roads, swamp trails and cattle paths, where teams are often cheered on and encouraged by the local Umngazi community. This is the same community for which the event was named after. It is well worth mentioning that a portion of your entry costs will go to supporting the local schools in the area and to date the event has raised over R800 000 for underprivileged learners.
