I am not sure if it is just life at Umngazi that seems to fly by but some days just seem to hurtle by. Our wonderful guests arrive and there is so much excitement to welcome back the regulars (desperate to give everyone a welcome back hug), meet the newbies and share in the endless joy of their discovery of this little piece of paradise.
We have had some beautiful crisp winter mornings that emerge into delicious lazy, warm and comfortable days. We love seeing guests prolong their lunches, into late afternoon, on the beautiful deck – lazy afternoons on the pool loungers, following the sun and reading a book allows one to drift off into a relaxing snooze. It makes one feel so happy to watch people enjoying life again, allowing themselves to recharge and forget the cares of the world for a few days.
We had a wonderful 240mm of rain in four days at the end of May/early June. Together with some very high seas, the mouth pushed wide open and has remained open. The estuary is so healthy and clean and this has allowed for excellent fishing. Some real huge fish have been caught and released which has generated a lot of excitement for everyone.
Easter, an age ago it seems, was magical. Our One Night in Bangkok evening was bright and colourful and as always, the food was sublime. The Easter egg hunt and the Easter bunny arriving made us wonder if maybe there really was an Easter bunny and for a few minutes everyone disappeared into the magical world of children. Easter brunch on the deck with Aubreys Waterlemon Melonaide cocktail, way too much chocolate and hot-cross buns and plates piled high with delicious treats left us all full and lazy for what could only be a sublime afternoon at Umngazi. https://www.umngazi.co.za/latest-news/aubreys-waterlem…lonaide-cocktail/
Our staff are feeling invincible and a bit safer as we managed to get the Department of Health to come to Umngazi and vaccinate nearly all of us. We were thrilled that we could get this done and besides a few sore arms, headaches and chills for a day they all bounced back so proud of themselves.
Time is still so precious, it can’t be wasted and here in our Umngazi bubble we relish that thought every day.
