Can you believe it that we are already in June and Umngazi Winter is upon us? I say Umngazi Winter because here at Umngazi we do need to keep reminding ourselves that it is actually winter. The mornings have been very crisp and the evenings very nippy but the days have been glorious. The pool heater is on and one can still be in a costume round the pool sipping those cocktails and getting a winter glow. In the evenings the fires are lit and the wine is flowing and it is wonderful and cosy.
Easter was a huge success and amidst the tropical storm we were able to have a “Tropical Affair” themed get together. The rain held out and the Easter bunny was able to arrive and spoil the kids. Easter brunch was another delicious, groaning buffet where we all ate far too much……..again!
In May we hosted the Grindrod Pondo Pedal & Run. What a load of fun that was and the cyclists and runners were treated to gorgeous Wild Coast weather, beautiful warm Pondo people and true Umngazi hospitality. Loads of wonderful memories were made, friendships established and stiff sore legs created. It is pure adventure in a beautiful part of our country.
The Umngazi mouth is still open and has been for 18 months now. The Spring high tides have filled up the river bringing in a plethora of native birds and breeding fish. The low tides have been incredibly low revealing very muddy banks where the local communities have been able to dig for plenty of fresh bait.
We have enjoyed a very busy couple of months, welcoming back familiar faces and getting to know new Umngazi friends. Our Umngazi family have enjoyed this busy time and as we bid a happy farewell to some retirees, we have welcomed some new faces to the family. The whole Umngazi team is remarkable and Keith and I often feel so fortunate to work with such beautiful and happy people who love their Umngazi as much as our guests do.
We trust that you and your families are all keeping well, navigating life as it brings its highs and its lows and coming out the other side better people. We can’t wait to see you all again but for now, keep warm and stay healthy.
All our love Keith and Nicole xxx
