We appreciate that the future is unknown, challenging and tough and yet you have managed to find it in your hearts to donate to Sicambeni Junior School to make it a great place to learn. We are forever grateful and so appreciative as we would never be able to do this sort of work if it was not for your incredible donations. No matter how big or how small the donation it ALL makes a difference and it is because of this you have helped us raise R93K in these few days. Every donation is a generous donation and from the bottom of our hearts we say a heartfelt THANK YOU.
After some serious consideration we have decided that even though our initial target has been reached we are going to continue with this campaign. We are now able to secure the structure of the school from the outside and would very much like to continue to raise funds in order to greatly improve the interior of the school for these children to make Sicambeni a school that these learners and educators will be proud of. We truly can’t thank everyone enough for being part of this amazing story and for helping us to help the Sicambeni community.
A huge thank you to Cherry Armstrong, a loyal and passionate, Umngazi guest, and the SA Executive Director of Celebrate Life together with sponsorship from Hollywood Bets, we were able to install two beautiful wood fired ovens at Cwebeni Junior Secondary School. These ovens have provided: A means of earning a living for 4 ladies from the community who have also been taught how to run their own small business. 4 loaves of fresh bread are baked every 25 minutes for the schools and communities to purchase. The school charges a nominal rent from these ladies and benefits from this as well as from the fresh bread which they buy for the children. The headmaster, the community, the school kids and of course the four bakers were beyond excited with this new opportunity. Nicole, together with Cherry and Celebrate Life are working on getting sponsorship for further ovens to be purchased for the schools in the community around Umngazi. In this way we can restore hope, alleviate poverty to a certain degree and maintain respect for these wonderful people.
Thanks to the generosity from our incredible guests and supporters our first “Make Them Feel Proud” campaign was a massive and heart warming success. We were able to purchase full uniforms, inclusive of blazers and tracksuits, for 40 of the orphaned pupils at Cwebeni Junior Secondary School. The look of delight and pride in their faces when they received their uniforms was overwhelming……Umngazi can’t thank everyone enough for all their love and support in making this dream a reality. Kim Griffith-Jones, the Project Co-Ordinator from the Robin Hood Foundation, has been a wonderful, inspirational and enthusiastic supporter towards the Make Them Feel Proud Campaign. She flew in to Umngazi and together with Nicole and Zandile, handed out 100 school bags with stationery, which were kindly and generously donated by Gen Schoolwear, to the much needed Sicambeni Primary School. It was a beautiful, heart warming and very emotional day. We were so delighted for the school and the pupils and are greatly appreciative for the generous sponsorship by Gem Schoolwear and the Robin Hood Foundation for making this happen.
