While our weekly Fly-In Package is no longer available, families and groups can now book a private full-aircraft charter, giving you complete control over your travel schedule. What happened to the weekly Fly-In Package?

Our scheduled weekly Fly-In Package has been discontinued. However, this doesn’t mean flying directly to Umngazi isn’t possible anymore! Guests can now charter the entire aircraft privately, offering flexibility to choose travel dates that suit your family’s needs.

How many people can travel on a private charter?

Our private charter can accommodate up to 8 adults with luggage, making it perfect for family travel or a group getaway with friends. No waiting for set schedules — your journey starts when it suits you.

Where do the charter flights depart from?

  • Durban’s Virginia Airport: Your journey begins here, where a private charter awaits to whisk you along the Wild Coast to the Port St Johns airstrip.
  • Flight time: Approximately 1 hour to the airstrip.
  • Transfer time: About 1 hour from the airstrip to Umngazi Hotel & Spa.

Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed by our team and offered a refreshing drink as you begin your escape from the “real” world.

Tip: Keep your cameras ready — the coastline and dramatic Wild Coast scenery are picture-perfect from the air.

Are there alternative flight options?

Yes! If a private charter isn’t ideal, there are regular flights available:

From Johannesburg:

  • Daily flights via Airlink from OR Tambo International Airport to Mthatha Airport.
  • Transfer time: ~2 hours (90 km) from Mthatha to Umngazi.
  • Contact our Reservations team for trusted transfer company details.

From East London:

  • Daily flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town into East London Airport.
  • Transfer time: ~4½ – 5 hours from East London to Umngazi.
  • Our Reservations team can assist with reliable transfer arrangements.
