1) Is the water safe to drink at Umngazi?

Our water is tested regularly to ensure it is safe for all guests. We provide filtered water at every meal and at the bar, and bottled water (still and sparkling) is available for purchase. Staying hydrated while enjoying the Wild Coast has never been easier!

2) What meals are included in the Umngazi stay?

Your booking includes three daily meals plus mid-morning and afternoon snacks with tea and coffee. Our chefs prepare fresh, locally-inspired cuisine that showcases the flavours of the Wild Coast. Whether you’re dining inside or on the deck, every meal is designed to delight your taste buds.

3) Breakfast and lunch at Umngazi

Our breakfast and lunch are generous buffet spreads, catering to all dietary preferences. Guests enjoy a wide selection, from light and healthy options to hearty favourites. For early departures, we can prepare breakfast or lunch packs at an additional charge.

4) Dinner at Umngazi

Dinner is a more intimate experience with a daily table d’hôte menu, cooked to perfection and served at your table. Guests can order directly with their waitron and enjoy a relaxed, dining atmosphere.

5) Drinks at the Bar

Basil’s Bar is the hub of relaxation and socialising at Umngazi, open all day for our guests. Enjoy speciality coffees, milkshakes, cocktails, and a full bar throughout the day. Guests can sip cocktails on the deck, enjoy pre-dinner drinks, or engage in a friendly round of darts or snooker after dinner in the bar. Drinks can also be ordered directly from your waitron during lunch or dinner. A wine menu is available on request, and filtered water, still, and sparkling bottled water are also available at the bar.

6) Private dining experiences

For special occasions, we offer exclusive dining options:

• Riverside Gazebo: Panoramic river views and soft lighting create an unforgettable evening.
• Green Door Cellar: Cosy, intimate space ideal for wine lovers and small celebrations.

Both options are available at an additional charge — please enquire at Reception.

7) Picnics at Umngazi

Our picnic baskets are perfect for enjoying a meal in one of the many scenic spots around the hotel. Picnic baskets are not included in the daily rate, and meals are not permitted at the swimming pool.

8) Signature Dining Experiences

• Saturday Seafood Evenings: A highlight at Umngazi, where coastal cuisine and Pondo culture come alive. While our fresh seafood selection takes centre stage, non-seafood lovers are also catered for with a specially-prepared meat board, ensuring everyone enjoys an unforgettable dining experience. Fresh breads, salads, and hearty soups complete this festive evening.
• Sunday Braai: Our traditional South African lunchtime barbecue on the deck, perfect for a relaxed Sunday treat. Guests can enjoy a refreshing beverage while savouring perfectly grilled local meats and seasonal accompaniments.

Our afternoon river cruise is a favourite for all ages. Snacks are included, and drinks can be pre-ordered from Reception or the Bar.
