we would like to share with you what actions we are taking as we adapt to the “new normal” at Umngazi. Rest assured we are adhering to all the required safety and hygiene protocols. Providing safe and clean environments for our guests and staff is a top priority for us and yet at the same time we would like to maintain that “home away from home” feel that you all love about Umngazi.
Guided by The Tourism Industry Standard Protocols for COVID-19 Operations we have had to heighten our standards for hygiene and cleanliness at Umngazi and this has meant changing a few “norms” to align with these protocols. We would like to personally ensure the well-being of every guest from the moment a reservation is confirmed till check-out.
These guidelines will adapt as science progresses and as we progress throughout the national lockdown levels and safety phases, some of these additional restrictions will be minimized but for now we ask that you respect these protocols and assist us in helping our staff create the Umngazi we have all come to love.
Should you have any queries regarding any concern please give us a ring at +27 (0)47 564 1115/6/8/9
Thank you for your continued loyalty and we look forward to welcoming you back to Umngazi

We have introduced intensified hygiene and safety measures across all major touch points in the hotel. This includes the increased cleaning and disinfecting of common touch points, e.g. public areas, public bathrooms. All guests and staff will, upon returning to work or entering the hotel, be required to have their temperature checked.
Social distancing will be observed throughout Umngazi and you will notice that we have decals on the floor to assist and guide us all. We request that masks are worn, if you are in a public space and are in close proximity with other guests and staff. Hand sanitizers will be available in every bedroom and also at strategic high-volume points in the hotel. We encourage all our guests and staff to wash their hands regularly, with soap and water, and to sanitize as often as possible.
We have elevated our rigorous cleaning procedures for all our rooms and have introduced additional safety measures, such as avoiding back-to-back usage of rooms to allow for deeper sanitation practices. Room cleaning and linen changing will only happen every third day, unless linen has become soiled, in which case please chat to Reception for a room clean. There will be no turn down service in any of the rooms, so as to limit the number of people with access to the room.
During this pandemic the dining room will be limited to industry protocol restrictions and there will be multiple dining times. We would like to keep the wonderful buffet style that Umngazi is known for but rest assured that we aim to ensure that we maintain food safety and hygiene standards, food quality, aesthetics and the general guest experience. Our policy of no room service will be strictly adhered to.
The health and safety of our staff has also been vital during these times. Wellness checks for all staff are done on a daily basis before they enter the property, training on personal protective equipment and mandatory wear, as per the tourism guidelines, will also be conducted. We have also introduced a Health and Safety Team, to implement and oversee all new practices, procedures and trainings. All staff will undergo mandatory cleaning and sanitization training, including enhanced cleaning protocols as guided by our partners at Hychem, so as to ensure a safe working environment at Umngazi.
This epidemic has impacted the lives of our local communities in which we operate. We will continue to assist the communities as best as we can and should you wish to assist in anyway please contact Nicole Craig, nicole@umngazi.co.za
We have kept our flexible cancellation policy, to provide you with more flexibility and peace of mind, when booking accommodation at Umngazi. For your individual reservations please email reservation on requests@umngazi.co.za
