DUTCH APPLE CAKE AND FUDGE SAUCE

Dutch Apple Cake:

  • 1 ½ cup soft butter
  • 1 cup castor sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Cinnamon and sugar
  • ½ cup milk
  • 385g tin pie apples
  • Cream butter and sugar
  • Add eggs one at a time and beat well
  • Sieve the dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternating with the milk.
  • Pour into a large deep dish
  • Spread the apples over the top and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar
  • Bake at 180 degrees for 30 -35minutes
  • Remove from oven and cool

Fudge Sauce:

  • 125g butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • While cake is in oven bring sauce ingredients to the boil
  • Stir until sugar has dissolved
  • Boil over gentle heat 12 minutes
  • Remove and strain
  • Pour ¾ sauce over hot cake
  • Serve with whipped cream and remaining sauce
